Verify Your Tax Preparer
In California, only four groups of professionals are legally allowed to prepare taxes for a fee. Make sure your tax preparer is one of the following:
CTEC Registered Tax Preparer (CRTP)

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Find or verify a CPA through the California Board of Accountancy
Enrolled Agent (EA)
- Find an EA by calling the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility at (313) 234-1280
Attorney
- Find or verify an attorney through the State Bar of California
