Advertisements Reach New Audiences

The California Tax Education Council (CTEC) is expanding its 2012 advertising campaign to a new market—Northern California.

The campaign will focus on bus signs and billboards in the Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno and San Francisco/Oakland markets.

The CTEC board of directors decided to advertise in the above markets based on enforcement reports from the Franchise Tax Board. The first set of advertisements will launch in Los Angeles before the end of the year.

CTEC also plans to expand its year round Internet advertisement campaign to include a six-week Internet radio campaign starting in January 2012. The Internet advertisements will target California taxpayers statewide.

I am starting my own small tax business and wanted to know if paying for the tax bond under my business name will cover anyone who wants to work with me and or for me to prepare taxes. Or do I need to pay for their bond(s)individually? They have not taken the requirements as of yet. However, I am ready for my bond and submitting my information.

The surety bond covers individuals only; however, you can get a bond that covers your employees. Call your insurance agent for details.

I am new to tax preparation and have met all requirements including taking the exam and registering. When I received my mailed Bond it came with an acknowledgement to be notarized and returned to the state. However, I am unable to find information on submitting this original and notarized bond to the state. I previously submitted my emailed bond information during registation. Will someone please provide this information, so that I can complete this step in the process.

CTEC only requires that you provide a copy (not original) of a valid bond. As long as you have a bond and are CTEC registered (which you stated you are), then you are done with the initial registration requirements. CTEC took over the tax preparer program from the California Department of Consumer Affairs in 1997 so the state longer handles tax preparer bonds or registration. It sounds like you were given outdated information? Please call our office tomorrow so our staff can help you should have more questions... 877-850-2832.
