CRTPs Invited to Board Meeting

Monday, November 1, 2010 - 2 comments

Enforcement, public awareness, continuing education, registration requirements, bond issues and, let’s not forget, the new IRS regulations.  These are definitely popular issues with CRTPs.

Unfortunately it seems too many CRTPs are still confused on why CTEC does not lobby for them, dissolve the program, give recommendations, answer income tax questions, or expand its enforcement and public awareness campaigns to more cities… to name a few.

The problem is not that CTEC ignores the above issues.  The problem is a wide misunderstanding of what CTEC is all about.

Contrary to most assumptions, CTEC is not a membership organization so it does not have the authority to lobby, offer services or give advice to CRTPs.  The fate and responsibilities of CTEC is entirely up to the California State Legislature, not CTEC.

Every newsletter CTEC includes a blurb inviting CRTPs to its next board meeting, but no one ever shows up.  Why not?

All committee meetings are open to the public.  All of the above issues are discussed and debated.  All council members are open to hearing feedback.  All questions will be answered.

We guarantee that CRTPs who attend the meeting will walk away with a stronger understanding of:

  • Board and committee procedures
  • CTEC’s mission and purpose
  • Reasons behind CTEC decisions

The next CTEC board meeting will be November 18-19, 2010 in San Diego.  The council will discuss enforcement, new IRS regulations, the advertising campaign, tax preparer fees, education requirements, website upgrades and the list goes on and on.
